Day 21- St. Louis

Day 21: St. Louis

Hey y’all, its the Grumpy's again!

We had an early “Wake wakey” call this morning at 6:15am, where we got up and ready to head out fast! While most of us were asleep, we finished driving through the pancake flat state of Kansas, our first stop being at the University of Kansas where we did some research and drove around the campus.

After that, we made our way to Loves where we ate our delicious and NEW (not a common word heard on TWB…) muffins that we absolutely loved. We always know it will be A GOOD DAY IF IT BEGINS WITH MUFFINS!!!

After our breezy drive, guess where we landed? Drumroll, please... WALLY WORLD! We stormed through those aisles like pros, grabbing essentials (and let’s be real, candy) like there’s no tomorrow.

Back on the road, Dallas came through with the ultimate entertainment: CARS 3! Everyone was cheering, screaming, and laughing their hearts out. And yes, there were tears (looking at you, Hayden)! I guess that’s the power of Lightning McQueen! We watched about an hour of Cars 3 before we got to the St. Louis Arch and had to pause it (more crying).

However, when we arrived at the St. Louis Arch, we all were in awe. We were split into groups of 5 to ride to the top of the arch, all of us excited and quickly getting over the catastrophic event of pausing Cars 3. The elevator was only four feet tall! Some people were scared while the elevator climbed to the top, so to calm each other down, we sang. Not very well, unfortunately (the singing lessons we were given by Dallas have not been extremely helpful). Some of these songs were “Revival”, “Wonderwall”, “Into The Unknown”, and definitely not “Free Falling”. Finally reaching the top (it was a long five minutes…), we took in the spectacular view for about ten minutes and then made our way back down the 630 ft structure.

After that, we got a couple of minutes in the gift shop to walk around. We bought postcards, fudge, root beer, stickers, and much more!  We then went to take a group picture under the arch, doing so in a very interesting… and difficult… way. We made a long, LONG vertical line all holding hands, and trust us, 80 kids walking and stumbling over each other was almost just as much of a sight to see as the St. Louis Arch. We all felt as though we were back in first grade, not only for the lovely mess of the line, but also for the hysterics about having to use the restroom. Do not worry, we found one. Soon after, we loaded on the bus and vans and made our hour drive to Dam East Campground, finally reaching our campsite for the second-to-last-night of the trip.

For our final sit down dinner tonight, we are having BREAKFAST (BRINNER)— eggs, sausage, fruit salad, and hashbrowns. Everyone is almost as excited for this as they were for Cars 3 (screaming, yelling, crying, etc… We all REALLY love breakfast). The dishwashers tonight (the Happy's) are having to clean all of the dishes that the cooks aren’t using due to the traveling meals being all we are having tomorrow. At least they will be eating well!

Sadly, tonight will be our last real sing along because we will not have enough time to have one tomorrow, the last night of the trip, so we will make tonight the BEST ONE YET!!!

Reed and his late night munchies... wonder what candy this is!

Goodnight and sleep tight, and don’t worry about the bed bugs biting, because they are all here with us :)
