Day 15-SLC and Bear Lake

Day 15: Salt Lake City and Bear Lake

Wakey wakey eggs and bakey!!

It was a scenic morning in the majestic Utah mountains, the air crisp with anticipation of adventure. You're all set to enjoy a delightful breakfast in the parking lot, when suddenly, a mischievous rat decides to join the party (from a distance, of course)! But fear not, our breakfast spread was so delicious, even the wildlife couldn't resist.

On the menu: flaky croissants and bagels, generously smeared with a delightful assortment of jelly and cream cheese. Sweet and savory flavors to get our taste buds flowing for a rockin' day ahead! The rat might have caused a stir, but it couldn't steal the joy of indulging in a scrumptious mountain morning feast!

Next, we were all hyped up for our visit with the Mormons! Our first stop: the Tabernacle, where we were greeted by the fabulous sisters from the Church of Latter-day Saints. They gave us the grand tour, complete with insider stories, everyday rituals, and even an acoustic check!

And guess what? They surprised us with our very own Book of Mormons! If anyone was curious, these Mormons actually enjoy their coffee. Yes, you heard that right! They're keeping it caffeinated while spreading the good word.

The Temple was a no-show—under construction until 2026. Bummer, right? No worries though, because we still hit up the Conference Center, a colossal space seating 21,000 souls! Fun fact: there's a balcony that drops a couple of inches when the crowd gets rowdy up there.

Hold onto your shopping bags, because our adventure post-Mormon visit was totally epic!

First up, the iconic Salt Lake City mall beckoned us with promises of food court delights. Of course, Chick-Fil-A stole the show—seriously, who can resist those chicken sandwiches? After fueling up, we scattered like excited squirrels, exploring every knick knack of this shopper's paradise. From trendy boutiques to quirky stores, we saw it all (and maybe spent a bit too much—thanks, Mom part 5!).

But wait, there's more! Back on the bus (cue the bus cheers!), we set our sights on Bear Lake. Three hours flew by, punctuated by a glorious pit stop at Walmart. Rodeo gear? Check. Snacks for days? Double check. We were ready for lakeside joy!

And what a journey it was—winding roads through luscious mountains and rivers, all leading us to the breathtaking beauty of Bear Lake. The anticipation built with every twist and turn, until finally, we arrived. Picture-perfect views greeted us, promising adventures just waiting to unfold!

Tonight's dinner with the Dopey’s was a flavor explosion of epic proportions! We were served chicken and cheese quesadillas sizzling from the grill, perfectly paired with rice & beans that were a fiesta in every bite. And to top it off, juicy watermelon slices and zebra cakes that made dessert a sweet victory!

After devouring this five-star feast, we traded our dinner attire for bathing suits and dashed to the beach. The battleground was water balloons! Teams clashed in the ultimate competition, each competing for glory. The Sleepy’s snatched victory with Ren Joyce Jr., their unbeatable water balloon, (Ren and Reed were partners) securing its place in the Hall of Fame. The Bashful's hung in until the final round securing their place as the runner ups!

But the surprises didn’t stop there! Just when we thought it was safe to pose for a group picture, the counselors launched a surprise attack and bombarded us with water balloons. We were set up! We all ran to the water to shower, and get frost bite… we mean swim! Jokes were cracked, backflips were thrown by the boys, and endless memories were created!

Right at sunset, we got out of the water and joined Grant for a Sing-A-Long. Right there on the beach, with the beautiful sun beaming on the lake with the mountains in the back. It was a view that is too hard to put into words but it was a great reminder of the privilege we have to travel and see this beautiful country, together as one!

We have a jam packed day today so it’s time we go to bed, under the stars, with a nice breeze! That’s all for now!
