Day 3- San Antonio

Day 3: San Antonio and the Alamo

Welcome to the latest Last Bashful blog—where early mornings, epic bus rides, and record-breaking bathroom stops are all in a day’s adventure!

What a morning it was with a bright 5am wake up call! After a restful night at the TWB Taj Mahal (air conditioning and mattresses are a rare sight on this trip so we praise these times), Sean the superhero driver navigated us through morning traffic like a boss.  We breezed through stops and even set a new bathroom break record: 11 minutes and 30 seconds flat. Boom! But it wasn’t all about speed—there were tunes, friendship bracelets, and a breakfast of delicious muffins and bananas thanks to our awesome Happy's!

Our morning kicked off at the mac daddy Flying J—because when you gotta go, you gotta go! While some of us dashed for snacks and the inevitable restroom run, our trusty Sneezy's (aka site managers) fueled up our vans like pros. And who said no to a chicken sandwich at 10 AM? Not the boys, that’s for sure! But most of us saved our appetites for what lay ahead, because next on the agenda? The legendary Beaver, just across the Texas line!

Now, let’s talk Texas—where everything’s bigger, including the excitement. Crossing into another state felt like stepping into a whole new world (or country, let’s be real). So buckle up, stay tuned, and join us as we dive headfirst into the Lone Star State. Who knows what surprises—or giant beavers—await us next!

The excitement levels skyrocketed as we rolled into Buc-ee's. Some of us acted like our younger sibilings on Christmas morning and may or may not slowly being blowing through our money on beaver merch (sorry mom!) The hauls were epic, with some of the girls snagging matching shorts that screamed "Texas chic," while others couldn't resist the allure of delectable cookie dough and brisket sandwiches that could feed a small army. Seriously, those sandwiches were MASSIVE—everything truly is bigger in TX!

And let's talk lunch: Hawaiian roll sliders piled high with turkey, ham, and cheese. It was like a flavor fiesta in every bite! Plus, classic pretzels and cookies on the side because, well, you can never have too many snacks on a road trip adventure.

We hopped back on the bus for our final stretch of day 3. We headed to San Antonio where we got to visit two signature sites; The Alamo & the Riverwalk!

The Alamo was a piece of American history where none of us really knew what to expect. There was unfortunate construction all over the city but after some handy dandy navigation tools we finally arrived. A lot of us were eager to use the restroom but we could not pass up the full tour and photo ops of this historic time! Next up, we headed down to the Riverwalk where Dallas and our counselors thought it would be just hilarious to make us take off our shoes for a “porcelain stone walk." Indeed, our leg was pulled and we looked like a ton of silly high schoolers walking to the river barefoot! Once we got our footwear back where it belonged (on our feet, thank you very much), it was time to split into groups and explore the jaw-dropping San Antonio Riverwalk. But wait, there's more—because dessert came first, naturally! Justin's Ice Cream saved the day with sweet treats that had us grinning like kids in a candy shop. Carolyn enjoyed her mint chocolate chip while our counselors were off meeting famous people like Tony Parker! (Of course this only happens when we aren't around)

Time to load up for a quick and easy drive to Schreiner University where we bed another night indoors (yeah, we are confused too but certainly aren't complaining)

Hayden, did you lose something?

Thumbs up from Westin!

Hold onto your hats, because the Last Bashful crew just rolled into Schreiner University for the night—and let’s just say, sleeping pads are the new luxury! A huge shoutout to our rockin' bus driver, Sean for another solid day on the roads. These long days certainly aren't for the weak!

But before we hit the sack, we had one last epic dinner courtesy of our amazing Happys: Chicken Caesar wraps that were the stuff of legends, topped with parmesan cheese that made us feel fancy. And let's not forget the sidekicks: pretzels for that crunch and Great Value cookies for the sweet finish.

As the sun sets on our adventure, we're taking the closing shift on all the jobs—but don't shed a tear just yet. This might be our last Bashful blog, but oh, what a ride it's been!

After a short bus ride we rode back to the next place we were shacking up for the night, Schreiner University, a small university of about 1,200 people. We got to luckily take showers tonight even though they were less than 4 minutes, we will take anything we can get! The NEW cooks (Grumpy') showered first since they had to go to Walmart to grab food for breakfast and lunch for tomorrow. Once everyone was finished with the showers we had our nightly meeting and talked about the Grand Canyon a little bit and listened to research for the day since we were a little close on time earlier. Today we learned about: Schreiner University (Meg Bratton), San Antonio, TX (Grace Gentry), The Alamo (Emma Smith), The State of Texas (Evan Tillis), and The River Walk (Makenna Tyson). After our meeting and research we ended up just sitting around, bonding and enjoying each others company.
